Our "Organic" Standards

What we mean by "Organic"

We sell both "organic" and what we term "natural" meat. That which is sold as "organic" is organic in the sense that the suppliers we use are Soil Association registered and approved.

As a company we are not registered with any regulatory body. Why? Simple - at present we can't afford to pay the necessary fees. As a result we recognise our meat is not organic in its legal sense but rather organically reared. On top of that we feel our customers benefit more from having us being their eyes and ears when assessing standards.

Organic and Halal Standards

All our animals come from smallholders and farmers who employ traditional farming methods. Many of them are accredited by the the Soil Association. Visit our Suppliers for more information.

Smallholders generally steer clear of chemical fertilizers on their land because they 1) can not afford them and 2) don't need them as they don't produce as intensively as larger farming units. By default most smallholders are 'organic'. On top of this none of our suppliers would ever dream of going down the road of inorganic feeds, steroids or other unnatural methods.

What does "Organic" really mean?

The term 'organic' can be misunderstood. What does the term mean to you? Happy animals in fields, feeding on buttercups, breathing fresh air and getting sun on their backs? Not always. Technically, organic means anything deemed 'organic' by a regulatory body..

Although the work of such bodies is commendable, it is our opinion that just because your meat is "organic" it does not mean the animal has had a natural or happy life. Regulatory bodies try but can not always always vouch for the way the animal was reared, lived, raised and slaughtered. It is know that there are farmers who are able to have their animals classed as organic because the feed they give them is classed as such. However, the animals are often born in metal pens, where they live their lives continuously feeding until slaughter.

Organic vs Natural

When we say we sell 'organic halal meat' we mean our the meat comes from suppliers that are Soil Association approved. When we say "natural", we mean meat that comes from animals that are naturally fed, sympathetically treated, free-range and above all happy. A better quality of life for the animals means a better quality of meat for you.

By supporting small scale and principled operations like ours, you help shift the industry away from intensive farming that leads farmers down the line of using fertilizers, unnatural feeds and insensitive treatment - all of which is to meet demand and maximize profits.

Why settle for any halal meat when you can have the tip-top very best?
