Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can we come to the farm and slaughter a lamb ourselves?
We are not a large farm. We are smallholders and anything we have on site is for ourselves. Our livestock is sourced locally. It is not possible to come and slaughter animals as this is against the law. Any animal to be used for human consumption must be processed through an abattoir and importantly be slaughtered by someone qualified to do so.
2. Can you deliver anywhere in the UK?
Yes, we can send your meat to you anywhere in the UK – please read our Delivery page for more information.
3. Do you stun the animals before slaughter?
Stunning has become a buzzword among some UK Muslims and has been completely misunderstood. Please read the articles, Stunning – Halal or Haram? and Fatwa on Stunning Animals.
4. Why do you only offer lamb/goat/chicken?
Our company is a small, family-run venture and has involved a huge amount of financial and emotional sacrifice. We are simply not able to offer every single product available at present. We hope that once we are certain people are willing to make the effort to organic and ethical that we can start offering other halal produce such as beef.
5. Why do you not have certification from the HFA or HMC?
We support the good work these organisations are offering the Muslim community in the UK. However, simply because a company does not display their logo it does not mean their meat is not halal. We are at present in negotiations with the HFA.
6. Is your produce available at any butchers?
At present, no. We are however in discussions with some outlets that have shown an interest in stocking our halal meat. If you have a local butcher why not suggest they stock our produce?
7. What is the difference between "Organic" and "Natural" lamb?
Anything we sell that is called "Organic" means it has come from a supplier who is approved by the Soil Association. Anything we sell called "naturally-reared" means it comes from livestock that may not be Soil Association approved but we are confident has led a natural and happy life.
8. Why can't you slaughter on the day we ask?
The logistics of our business does not allow us to slaughter on any day of the week. We have to book in our lambs or goats at the abattoir usually 2-6 weeks in advance. As a result we estimate the number of orders and book in accordingly.
9. Can you cut the meat as we want?
Yes, within reason, we can butcher the meat according to any specific requests.
